Set roles and permissions
Every workspace has three roles: Owner, Admin and Member. Owners and Admins change a person's role in Settings → Workspace → Members, and Members only see the projects they've been added to.

The three roles
Owners and Admins can open every project. Members see only the projects they're in, which makes Members the right role for clients and for work not everyone should see.
- Owner: the person who created the workspace. Can do everything, including the plan and billing and deleting the workspace. There is one Owner, who can't leave or be removed.
- Admin: everything the Owner can do except billing, subscription and deleting the workspace. Admins can invite people, add them to projects, create, rename, archive and delete projects, manage groups and columns, and change or remove Members (but not other Admins).
- Member: works inside the projects they've been added to. Members create, edit, assign and delete tasks, upload files and create folders, chat, start group chats, add calendar events and post updates. They can't create or delete projects, invite people, delete other people's files or change a file's privacy.
Change someone's role
- 1Open Settings (the gear at the bottom of the bar on the right) and click the Workspace tab.
- 2Under Members, click the role next to the person's name.
- 3Choose Admin or Member, then click Yes, change role.
- The Owner can change anyone else's role. An Admin can change Members only. Nobody can change their own role.
- Changing roles comes with Max, Team and Lifetime (see pricing). On Free, everyone you invite joins as a Member.
Remove someone, or leave
- 1In Settings → Workspace → Members, click Remove from workspace next to the person.
- 2Click Yes, remove. This can't be undone; invite them again to bring them back.
- To leave a workspace yourself, open Danger zone at the bottom of the same tab, click Show, then Leave Workspace. The Owner sees Delete Workspace there instead.
Choose who sees a project
When an Owner or Admin creates a project, Visibility sets who can open it: Public (Admins and people you add) or Private (only you and the people you invite). To change who's in a project later, open it and use the member avatars at the top: see add people to a project.
Not in Workel yet
- Custom roles: Settings → Roles shows sample roles, but saving them is marked coming soon.
- A Client role, shown with Soon when you invite someone.
- Handing the Owner role to someone else, and different roles per project.
