Switch from Basecamp to Workel. One place for the work, with calls built in.

Basecamp and Workel both put a team's projects, chat, docs, files and calendar in one place. Basecamp keeps it simple, at one flat price. Workel adds video calls, an AI assistant, and tasks you can see as a board, a list or a calendar.

Which one fits your team. An honest answer, both ways.

Pick Workel if

  • You want video calls built in: one-to-one on every plan, groups on Max
  • You want one chat for the whole team, with channels and direct messages, not one per project
  • You want to see the same tasks as a board, a list or a calendar
  • You want an AI assistant that answers from your work, included with Team
  • You're bringing projects from another tool: Workel imports from Asana, ClickUp, monday.com, Trello and Notion

Stay with Basecamp if

  • You want one flat price, whatever the headcount: unlimited people from Studio ($59 a month)
  • You work with clients: they join your projects, and you choose what they see
  • You track progress with Hill Charts: is the work still being figured out, or being finished?
  • You swap status meetings for automatic check-ins, asked on a schedule
  • You track time, on Pro and Unlimited

What Workel doesn't do yet: time tracking, rule-based automations, guest accounts for people outside your team, or phone apps (iOS and Android are coming soon).

Basecamp charges one flat price for the whole account, with no per-person fees: Studio is $59 a month and Pro $99 (billed monthly), and Unlimited is $299 a month, billed yearly. Basecamp's plans, prices and features were checked on 19 October 2026 on its own website (pricing, features, to-dos, card tables, chat, docs and files, calendar, Basecamp and AI) and may have changed since. Prices are a month, in US dollars. Workel's come from our pricing page.

Moving over from Basecamp. There's no Basecamp importer yet. Here's the plan.

Start fresh

  1. 1

Keep a copy: the account owner opens Adminland and chooses Export data from this account. Basecamp emails a download when it's ready.

  2. 2

Workel doesn't import Basecamp exports yet. Create your projects in Workel and invite your team; your Basecamp copy stays on your computer to look things up.

We do it for you

Or let us move it.

Years of history or a messy setup? Send us your Basecamp export. We'll map it, run the move, and walk through the result with you before your team logs in, free.

Switching from Basecamp? Straight answers, before you start.

Not yet. Workel doesn't read Basecamp's export, so moving means setting up your projects fresh. Send us the export and we'll help you move, or start with your most active project and bring the rest as you go.

Workel is free for up to 2 people, with no card needed. Pro is $8 a person a month ($7 billed yearly). Basecamp's cheapest paid plan was Freelancer, $25 a month for the whole account when we checked its pricing page on 19 October 2026. Basecamp prices the whole account, not each person, so for a large team it can cost less than Workel.

Video calls (one-to-one on every plan, groups on Max), an AI assistant inside the app (Team and Lifetime), one chat for the whole team, and tasks you can see as a board, a list or a calendar.

When you work with clients inside your projects, want one flat price for a large team, or rely on Hill Charts, check-ins or time tracking.
